Studies of disaster risk and risk management theory are hot issues now. However, the definition of the disaster risk has not yet been fully unified. In view of domestic and international disaster risk research achievements, and through a comprehensive analysis of the current status of disaster risk research, a definition for the disaster risk is suggested. A disaster risk management system from risk definition, risk analysis, risk assessment and risk mitigation is proposed, and some suggestions on future research are put forward.
