The course focuses on the physical processes that generate natural hazards through an advanced understanding of geological processes, mechanical behaviour of geological materials and quantitative hazard modelling and risk assessment techniques. It is crucial that any investigation of a natural hazard relies upon a firm understanding of the natural system if any assessment of the hazard and proposed remediation is to be meaningful. The course is available as both a full-time or part-time study mode. The full-time course is taught two days per week and is one year in duration, while the part-time course is taught one day per week over two years.
