The Desinventar Database for Sri Lanka was developed by the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) of the Ministry of Disaster Management with technical and financial support from the Disaster Risk Management (DRM) programme of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the UNDP Regional Centre in Bangkok (RCB). The objective of the database is to provide data for: vulnerability analysis; disaster planning; risk & hazard maps validation; policies/regulations and investments; damage assessment.
The database provides information at national level covering the period between 1974 to date. The disaster related information provided includes all hazard types (as well technological disasters) and both human and economic losses.
Database sources include media, government and non-governmental organizations and other research organizations. The database users include governmental agencies, NGO’s, researchers and students, media and technical agencies.
