The Humanitarian Early Warning Service (HEWSweb) has been proposed by the Sub-Working Group on Preparedness of the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) and endorsed by the IASC Working Group in September 2004. In 2010, the web service was re-launched. It provides early warning information worldwide. The United Nations World Food Progamme has developed and maintains the HEWSweb website on behalf of the IASC and is based on inputs by all other IASC partners (see website). HEWSweb was established to bring together and make accessible in a simple manner the most credible early warning information available at the global level from multiple specialized institutions.
HEWSweb has pages for each type of hazards such as floods, storms, locust, volcanoes, earthquakes, weather and other hazards. It provides maps and detailed descriptions concerning for each type of event. Details on event parameters and information sources can be found on HEWSweb site.
Users are the general public as well as managers and decision-makers.
