In order to assist developing countries in implementing Disaster Risk Assessment (DRA) activities, GRIP has developed a comprehensive DRA solution and the associated training package. The training package contains 5 integral courses, i.e. Disaster Risk Assessment (DRA), Country Situation Analysis for Risk Assessment (CSA), National Disaster Observatory (NDO), National Risk Assessment (NRA), and Urban Risk Assessment (URA), and are provided in three different levels – Introductory, intermediate and advanced – according to the needs of the participants and with different focuses.
This booklet is the 1st out of the 3 booklets on GRIP's training package. It gives a brief overview of 6 integral introductory courses: DRA for United Nations Country Team (UNCT), DRA for DRR Practitioners, CSA, NDO, NRA, and URA, aiming at enhancing the participants’ capability to plan, facilitate, and coordinate DRA activities in their countries, besides developing their overall understanding of DRA and its use in decision making in disaster management and development planning.
These introductory course addresses basic issues and challenges a country is facing in terms of implementing DRA actitivies on its own, such as governance and coordination, multi-stakeholder engagement, data and information sharing and exchange, standadization of the methodologies and tools, risk information management and dissemeniation, etc. In paricular, these introductory courses provide various opportunities for the participants to generate local knowledge and find country-sepecific solution and the associated road map to conducting DRA activities.
These introductory courses target all those who want to acquire the fundamental knowledge of disaster risk assessment (DRA) and define the scope and context of DRA activities in their countries or cities including both DRA and DRR/DRM professionals, general development practitioners, and decision / policy makers from different organizations and all the relevant sectors.
