The article presents the results of a study focused on the estimation of greenhouse gas emissions from brick production in the Republic of Moldova during the 1988-2005 period, for being included in the national inventory of greenhouse gases in the frame of Second National Communication (SNC) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Cange (UNFCCC). The methodologies used are based on the 2006 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories (IPCC, 2006). The obtained results revealed that during the 1988-2005, the CO2 emissions from brick production have reduces by 71% from 53,67% thous. Tonnes to 0,05 thous. Tonnes. The signficant fluctuations in the emission time-series is explained by a sharp decline in brick production during 1990-1999 period and by growth in the construction market in recent years (especially since 2000). The study has been realised with the financial support of the GEF and UNEP in the frame of the project „Republic of Moldova: Enabling Activities for the preparation of the SNC under the UNFCCC”.
