As part of the 2011 Annual Event, IRGC is convening a selected number of experts and practitioners for roundtable discussions hosted at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) on 3 November. Participants will have the opportunity to exchange their expertise on the selected themes.
Programme: Roundtable 1: How can we improve the anticipation of and early response to emerging risks? Understanding the risks that may emerge from systemic interdependencies
Roundtable 2: How can we improve the provision of more consistent science and technology advice in support of risk governance and sustainable innovation? Managing the crucial relationship between technological innovation, risk governance and public acceptabilityTheme 1: Institutions for technically-based risk and policy analysis: an overview of the situation in the US, in Europe and in Asia. Theme 2: Public and private regulation and incentives.
Public Conference: How can we learn from large-scale industrial accidents? Co-organised with EPFL. Keynote speakers and a panel of experts and practitioners will discuss how we have learned from and built better risk governance institutions and processes in the wake of past disasters, including the lessons that can be learned from the recent March 2011 Fukushima Dai-Ichi accident in Japan.
